Welcome to StoryLab – an online resource for Young Writers. I have a BA from Brown University and an MFA in Playwriting from UCSD and I have been teaching creative writing to kids from nursery school to college-age for the past two decades. Over the years, parents always asked about writing resources for young writers.  StoryLab is my answer.

On the main StoryLab page, click on the beakers to find worksheets (that you can print out) for all levels of writers, from pre-kindergarten to middle school and beyond. I will be adding more prompts, worksheets, and mini-lessons as the site grows.

Each worksheet has a prompt at the beginning and these can be used as mini-lesson springboards. On the Beginnings, Middles, and Ends pages, you will find more advanced worksheets for those writers who can and want to delve deeper into their craft.

To the right, you will find (the beginnings of) a library of mini lessons and more, broken into age groups.  Whether you are a parent or teacher, I hope it gives you ideas to create your own Writing Workshop.

One of the best ways to teach writing is to brainstorm how any of these foundations or techniques work in the stories that your children and students already know and love.

Feel free to reach out on the CONTACT page if you have questions about how to make use of worksheets or if there are topics that you would like to see covered. And please share this resource with other young writers you know!
